The Convert Button puts results in the Converted Value field, which is auto-selected if tapped/clicked, after which you can use Copy/Paste. The Convert & Add Button does likewise, but also updates the Amount of Material Used field.

If you're making plaster hump or slump molds, casting molds, or other decorative items, this calculator shows how much it costs to make!

Not sure how much you (or your studio) last paid for plaster? Its price can vary - a lot - depending on where you purchase it, but as of March 2022, several places in the Northeast charge approximately $25.00 for 50 pounds of USG® Pottery Plaster #1. You may want to use these values, until you can determine the exact price paid. Note that it defnitely pays to shop local when it comes to bulk plaster. We've seen places incredibly low - $15.00 for 50 lbs, and there'd by no freight if you can pickup at the loading dock! We've also seen much higher; for example $35/50lbs.

Amount of Material Used (By Weight)

Enter how much plaster you are using to make your item, as well as if your measurement is in either pounds or kilograms. If you are calculating in pounds, and your measurement is in pounds and ounces, you can convert that to pounds using the calculator lower on the page.

Price

Enter the price you pay for plaster, and change currency as needed.

If you purchase in bulk (eg. 25 or 50 pound bags), you can enter the total price, and use the next field (For Quantity) to indicate the corresponding amount that is purchased. For example, if you pay $23.75 dollars for 50 pounds, enter 23.75 into this field, and select Dollars. Then, enter 50 into the For Quantity (by Weight) field below. The calculator will use this data to calculate and display the unit price per pound of plaster.

Alternatively, you can enter unit price into the Price field, and then enter 1 into the For Quantity field. For example, if you pay $0.46 cents per pound, enter 0.46 into the price field, dollars for currency, and 1 into the For Quantity field.

For Quantity (By Weight)

Use this field to enter how much of the material is purchased for the price you paid. If entering the bulk price, enter the total pounds or kilograms. If you know the unit price per pound or per kilogram, enter 1 into this field. See the examples above for more information.

Note: The Weight Unit specified earlier for Amount of Material Used (by Weight) is used for this entry field as well - either Pounds or Kilograms.

Pound and Ounces Conversion

This calculator enables you to calculate plaster cost by pounds or kilograms. If you are calculating in pounds, but your measurement is in pounds and ounces, a conversion calculator is provided to convert to pounds. For example, if the drape mold you are making uses 6 pounds 7 ounces of plaster, this will be converted to 6.4375 pounds.

To convert, enter pounds and ounces and use either button to convert to pounds. Both buttons display the converted value. However, the Convert and Add button will also update the Amount of Material Used (by Weight) with the converted value. If you use the Convert button, you can then click the converted value field to auto-select, and then use your device's copy/paste options to move the data into the Material Amount field.
