Plaster molds are an excellent tool for handbuilding pottery. Since the plaster draws the water out of the clay, you can quickly make pieces: as soon as the clay can support its shape, remove it from the mold, and start the next. With hump molds, where you drape the clay over the mold, it's simple to add textures, handles, and more while your piece is still on the the mold.
